Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina Jolie Voight) is an American actor and director most well-known for her sexy appeal, edginess and work in the field of humanitarian aid. The role she played in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was a role she was awarded for the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her childhood in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11. After two years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles, she attended Beverly Hills High School. She then studied drama at New York University. She was also an actor in theater productions. She also did modeling and appeared in music videos. Jolie met Jonny Lee Miller (1996 divorced in 1999).). The film was not able to attract an audience, just as did the subsequent films. However, in 1997, Jolie was the subject of much interest as the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor in the television movie George Wallace, and she was later awarded a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal. In the HBO movie Gia Jolie played a supermodel suffering from drug addiction. After her Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie was in Pushing Tin, a comedy with John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Billy Bob Thornton. Then, in 2003, she got divorced. Jolie was the carjacker's wife (Nicolas Cage), in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Later, she adopted her British accent and mastered street fighting and kickboxing in order to take on the roles of Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. She played Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander in 2004 and additionally, she starred alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow the thriller about science fiction set in 1930s New York City. Both films did poorly at the box-office, but Jolie's Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) was an enormous success. Jolie played a character acting as a normal housewife while she worked on the film. Brad Pitt became her partner in the film.
